About this edition
So begins Renascence, the poem of a soul broken open and reborn, written when Edna St. Vincent Millay was barely twenty, and the poem that made her famous overnight.
This volume gathers her early work: the whole of her 1917 debut, Renascence and Other Poems, and the sharp, sparkling epigrams and sonnets of A Few Figs from Thistles (1920), where the candle burns at both ends. Passionate, formally brilliant and unmistakably modern, these are the first poems of one of the great lyric voices of the twentieth century, and of the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
