About this edition

For a generation of American readers, Sara Teasdale was the voice of the heart’s weather. Her lyrics are short and unforced, and they have a way of staying with you long after the book is closed.

This edition gathers eighty-six of her finest poems from the three books of her early maturity, Rivers to the Sea (1915), Love Songs (1917) and Flame and Shadow (1920), among them “Barter,” “I Shall Not Care,” “The Long Hill,” “Let It Be Forgotten” and the famous “There Will Come Soft Rains.” In 1918 her work received the prize that would become the Pulitzer.

The poems are arranged as a single reading sequence, each set on its own page with the poet’s original stanza indentation preserved, freshly typeset behind an original mixed media cover illustration by JVB Atelier Designs.
